Yamamoto Keiko Rochaix is a small independent gallery near Whitechapel, East London. Keiko is also a good friend I met while studying Art History in Oxford a few years ago. We spent most of our time discussing medieval goodies such as stained glass, metalwork and illustrated manuscripts. Her gallery is a great leap from those and yet very close in some ways; such as exquisite colour and materials.

The great news is that the gallery has re-opened and she has extended her current exhibition until August 1st. 

Allesssandro Roma’s works The Eye of the Inner Leaf, is his second solo show at the gallery, featuring new works on paper, of ceramics, and large scale wall painting. In Keiko’s words the exhibition is is “an allegorical journey into the depth of the unconscious, a celebration of instinct which, through the pictorial gesture, turns into a pure vision of the savage that lives in us.”

Roma studied and graduated from Accademia di Brera, Milan. His work has been shown in museums and galleries across the world including the Prague Biennale (2009), Mart Contemporary and Modern Art of Museum of Trento and Rovereto (solo) (2011), Genoa (2016) and the Fondation Thalie, Brussels in 2019.
