The Garman Ryan Collection at The New Art Gallery in Walsall

The New Art Gallery, Walsall. One of the things I am missing most during this pandemic lockdown is days out at provincial galleries. The big museums and galleries in the capital can be great trips out but I much prefer visiting the smaller provincial and town galleries. Less hustle and bustle but equally good art to see.

Walsall has been one of my favourites for years and will be high on my list when freedom of travel becomes easier again. I have written before about this great space for art but this time will have to suffice with a You Tube video. This review of the Garman Ryan collection concentrates on the birds and animals. Do enjoy.

When open the gallery normally has some special collections as well as its permanent works. With these exhibitions, the New Art Gallery always punches above its weight. For some years though there have been concerns about the gallery’s long term viability. Stuck off the beaten track north of  Birmingham and lost in the M5/M6 conglomeration of motorways it needs a special effort to visit.

So please, when travel and movement ease, do visit this gem and enjoy a great day in this oasis of modernism. In the meantime enjoy this video trip around the Garman Ryan Collection
